exhibition that explores the creative potential and artistic possibilities of graphite. Transcending the potential of the medium of drawings alone, the exhibition showcases new applications of graphite as a material of drawing, painting, sculpture, and installation. Twelve to fifteen artists will be included, among them Chris Sicat (San Jose), who covers tree branches and stumps completely with graphite, and artists such as Kevin Chen (San Francisco), who creates drawings so small that a magnifying glass is required to view their intricate details.

Obsessive Reductive

Opens February 1, 2014 through March 30, 2014
The Museum of Craft and Design presents Obsessive Reductive, a group exhibition that includes approximately 12 artists working in a variety of media including paper, wood and metal. Participating artists share the common process of intricately, precisely and "obsessively" removing material to create extraordinary imagery and sculpture.

Many of these works have reticulating patterns, and in some cases the use of material absence is employed as a significant design element positioning negative space as a dominant element. The visual similarity of all featured works in Obsessive Reductive will be the concentrated detail and complexity of the work, despite the various approaches and media.
Featured artists Drew Daly, Brian Dettmer, Jim Dingilian, Adam Feibelman, Theresa Ganz , Cal Lane, Bovey Lee, Chris Natrop, Aric Obrosey, Francesca Pastine, Lyndi Sales,  Jill Silva, Leigh Salgado, Farnaz Shadravan , Kako Ueda, Annie Vought, Elise Wehle, and Jared Yamanhua.
Exhibition curated by Marc D’ Estout.
The Museum of Craft and Design is located at
2569 Third Street
(between 22nd and 23rd), in the historic American Industrial Center in San Francisco's vibrant Dogpatch neighborhood.  HOURS
Tuesday and Wednesday 11 - 6, Thursday 11 - 7, Friday and Saturday 11 - 6, Sunday 12 - 5.
Closed on Monday.

My Collaboration with LAB magazine

My Collaboration with LAB magazine was just published! Joseph Robertson featured my work in the magazine and asked if I would want to do an intervention with the magazine.  I cut up the cover of LAB {issue 2} and it is now featured on the back cover of LAB {issue 4}

MY WATERMILL CENTER EXPERIENCE: DEVIL'S HEAVEN 20TH ANNIVERSARY AUCTION

Spending a weekend in the Hamptons was the furthest thing from my mind.  Honestly, the Hamptons is not on my Radar.  Nevertheless,  I was asked to Participate by Daneyal Mahmood in the Devil's Heaven 20th Anniversary Auction at the Watermill Center so I went a long for the ride, and quite a ride it was! I took photos of the trail of performances that meandered through the amazing woods on the grounds of the Watermill Center. Hands-down, the best performance was that of Evangelia Rantu "Solo with Chairs From Medea (2)" by Dimitris Papaioannou, 2008.  Trina Merry scattered air-brush painted nudes throughout the area. Lisa Lozano's "Funerailles de Miel," featured a honey coated nude in a trough and a row of spoons on the table indicated that guest were to sample the honey (not too original).  Yao Zhang's "My Favorite Food" was visually striking and quite inventive. Still, nothing came close to Rantu's performance.

The silent auction offered an amazing array of artist. I particularly liked Davide Ballian's "Untitled Venus" and Ryan Brown's "Torso of a Young Man." The live auction was sheer spectacle sans too much substance, but that is where the real money was made so good for them!

There was great dancing after dinner with dj Nick Cohen.

For better or for worse, Lady Gaga made an apperance so all the press is Gagagagagagaga.  She was, however, an active bidder and helped to raise money for the center.
